Beginner Houseplants
What we'll cover
We'll take the mystery out of houseplants and look at the things that really make the difference:
Choosing the right plant
Some houseplants are much more forgiving than others. We'll look at good beginner choices and how to choose plants that suit your home and how much time you actually have to look after them.
Light & positioning
Bright light, indirect light, low light... what does it all actually mean? We'll look at different light levels and where plants are happiest around your home.
Watering
How do you know when a plant needs water? We'll look at the signs to watch for and some of the common watering mistakes that can cause problems.
Pots & compost
We'll talk about drainage, pot sizes, compost and when your plant might actually need repotting.
Troubleshooting
Yellow leaves? Brown edges? Drooping? We'll look at some of the common signs that your plant isn't happy and what might be causing them.
A relaxed evening at Rockbarton
This is a beginner-friendly workshop, so you don't need to know the names of lots of plants or have a house full of thriving greenery!
There'll be real plants to look at, practical demonstrations, time for questions and plenty of opportunity to chat about your own plants.
Tea, coffee and cake are included.
Bring a notebook if you'd like to take notes.
What to bring
Nothing special — just yourself!
If you have a houseplant you're struggling with, you're welcome to bring a photo of it on your phone and we'll see if we can work out what might be going wrong.
Places are limited, so booking in advance is recommended.
